Essa ilha é a mais isolada do Oceano Pacífico, o que gera ainda mais curiosidade a respeito dos Moais. Há grandes sítios arqueológicos na ilha e vulcões inativos que completam o cenário misterioso da região.

As estátuas são tão misteriosas quanto as pirâmides do Egito. Afinal, como os Rapa Nui conseguiram esculpir rostos em rochas enormes com mais de 10 metros de altura e mais de 80 mil quilos cada? E como elas foram posicionadas lado a lado como estão hoje em dia?
Para os estudiosos, explicação mais plausível é que essa civilização tenha utilizado um sistema com troncos de madeira para escalar as rochas e esculpir os rostos.
Mas o próprio desaparecimento da civilização é um mistério para a ciência. Os menos céticos acreditam que houve uma ligação forte com extraterrestes e os seres mais evoluídos deixaram esse plano.
Para os estudiosos, a explicação mais plausível é de que o solo sofreu muito desgaste pelas guerras entre os clãs, o que impossibilitou o plantio de alimentos. E tudo isso culminou com o fim dos Rapa Nui.

Um passeio que você não pode deixar de incluir no roteiro é a “visita” aos vulcões inativos. Além de grandes, são imponentes. Rano Kau tem mais de 250 metros de profundidade, sendo quase impossível ver o seu fundo lá de cima da cratera (aliás, turistas não podem chegar até lá, obviamente).
O vulcão Rano Raraku preserva até hoje os moais feitos pelo povo nativo. Alguns deles não foram “colocados no lugar” e permaneceram pelos arredores dos vulcões.
Aldeira de Orongo
Você também pode visitar Orongo, uma antiga aldeia que fica aos pés do Rano Kau. Foi lá que a civilização dos Rapa Nui se desenvolveu e era onde aconteciam as cerimônias religiosas.
Lá também acontecia uma tradição chamada Homem-Pássaro. Era através dessas competições que o povo escolhia quem seria o próximo governante.
Hoje a aldeia é um dos sítios arqueológicos mais importante do mundo, e foi tombada como patrimônio mundial pela Unesco.
A ilha é bem pequena, e por isso não são necessárias férias tão longas para conhecer toda a cidade.
A sugestão é para que você separe pelo menos 3 a 4 dias para conhecer tudo com calma e aproveitar o passeio.
E, além dos passeios citados acima, você também poderá conhecer o museu da cidade, que conserva objetos antigos e a escrita indecifrável dos Rapa Nui. Aproveite também para esticar um pouco as pernas e caminhar na linda praia de Anakena, que segundo lendas locais, foi onde o rei da Polinésia desembarcou com a família real.
